Project Background & Objectives

The Besmaya Power Plant project was initiated to deploy an advanced, high-security surveillance and physical access management infrastructure for a critical utility asset in Baghdad, Iraq. Commissioned by Mass group holding, this massive 4.5 GW combined cycle power plant stands as a cornerstone of the regional power grid, demanding uncompromised physical security. Within this large-scale industrial framework, PDP Energy was selected to engineer the core security infrastructure. The primary company-specific objectives centered on designing the CCTV and access control systems for the plant premises and all process buildings, establishing a robust, integrated surveillance network to safeguard personnel, infrastructure, and continuous operations.

Project Challenges

Engineering a comprehensive security and surveillance network across a massive 4.5 GW multi-acre heavy industrial site presents intense technical and environmental hurdles. PDP Energy had to navigate the complexities of coverage optimization across dozens of high-risk process buildings, switchyards, and administrative sectors. The industrial site required selecting and placing equipment resilient to extreme ambient heat, dust, and severe electromagnetic interference generated by high-voltage turbine systems. Furthermore, integrating a centralized CCTV and access control platform meant managing massive real-time data bandwidths and designing foolproof fiber-optic network redundancy to prevent blind spots or security vulnerabilities under any operational scenario.

Project Outcomes

Operating as the specialized security systems engineer, PDP Energy successfully delivered the complete engineering and detailed design package for the plant-wide surveillance and security systems. The project effectively established an unshakeable monitoring and defensive framework for one of the largest generation assets in Iraq. By delivering highly precise and secure technical blueprints, PDP Energy cleared the way for the deployment of a sophisticated security network that guarantees continuous site tracking, protects vital national energy infrastructure, and ensures a safe operating environment across the entire 4.5 GW facility.
